A practical guide to restaurant attendance and salary records

Month-end reviews are easier when employee details, attendance and payment records are kept clear throughout the month—not reconstructed on payday.

Start with the employee record

Keep each employee’s join date, basic salary and shift assignment current. Record an end date when employment ends rather than losing the employee’s earlier history. Review salary changes before relying on a monthly total.

Unrecorded is not the same as absent

ResturantDash attendance distinguishes Present, Absent and Not Recorded. A day with no recorded attendance needs review; it should not be casually interpreted as an absence.

Choose a regular review time and have the responsible manager complete the record. Resolve gaps while the day is still fresh rather than guessing at the end of the month.

Understand overnight shifts

A shift that starts at 17:00 and ends at 05:00 crosses midnight. Check the starting day, assigned working days and local date before interpreting whether an employee is on shift.

The On Shift indicator describes the assigned schedule. It is not proof that someone attended. Keep schedule status and actual attendance as separate records.

Review part-month salary calculations

Join and end dates matter when employment covers only part of a month. ResturantDash’s proration calculation includes the eligible starting and ending days and rounds monetary results to two decimal places.

Compare the recorded dates and monthly basic salary before accepting a result. These tools do not establish which deductions or payroll practices are legally permitted; follow the employee agreement and applicable local requirements.

Keep adjustments and payments traceable

Review adjustments separately from the basic salary. Record salary payments so managers can distinguish paid amounts from outstanding balances instead of overwriting a total.

When a payment covers outstanding amounts across months, ResturantDash allocates it to the oldest month first. Review that allocation and the remaining balance before closing the record.

Build a simple month-end review

Check employee dates, unresolved attendance days, shift assignments, salary changes, adjustments and payment history. ResturantDash staff records use PKR amounts and Asia/Karachi dates; make sure the team reviewing them uses the same date context.

Restrict staff-management access to the owners and administrators responsible for these records. Avoid sharing employee salary information in general team messages.
